DESCRIPTION

Helichrysum Bracteatum Mix, commonly known as strawflower, is a classic annual prized for its vibrant, papery blooms that retain their colour and shape even when dried. This mix produces a cheerful range of colours including yellow, orange, red, pink, and white, adding long-lasting interest to borders and cutting gardens. The upright plants carry sturdy stems topped with daisy-like flowers that are ideal for fresh bouquets as well as dried arrangements. Easy to grow and highly tolerant of heat and dry conditions, strawflowers thrive in full sun and well-drained soil, making them an excellent choice for low-maintenance and Mediterranean-style gardens.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Sow Helichrysum Bracteatum Mix seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost or direct sow outdoors after frost has passed. Lightly press seeds onto the soil surface or cover very lightly, as they benefit from light for germination.

Transplant or thin seedlings to 25–30 cm apart in a sunny position with well-drained soil. Avoid overly rich soil, which can lead to excessive foliage and weaker stems. Water regularly while plants are establishing, then reduce watering as they become more drought tolerant.

For best results as dried flowers, harvest blooms just before they fully open and hang them upside down in a dry, well-ventilated space.
