DESCRIPTION

‘Bobby’ is a fast-maturing organic broccoli that forms beautifully shaped, medium-sized green crowns in just 60–70 days.

This open-pollinated variety is remarkably uniform, producing solid, heavy heads with long, easy-to-harvest stems and no hollow centers. Ideal for late summer and autumn cultivation, ‘Bobby’ thrives with moderate to high fertilization and develops quickly, reducing the risk of pests like aphids and caterpillars.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Sow ‘Bobby’ broccoli seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last expected frost, or directly outdoors once the soil has warmed to around 10–18°C. Transplant seedlings when they have 4–6 true leaves, spacing them about 40–50 cm apart in rows 50–60 cm apart. Broccoli prefers fertile, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0 and benefits from consistent moisture and regular feeding, especially nitrogen-rich fertilizers during early growth.

Because ‘Bobby’ develops quickly, it’s well suited for late summer or autumn crops. Keep soil evenly moist to encourage steady growth and firm heads. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest when the central heads are full and tight, cutting the long stems cleanly before the florets begin to loosen. Rotate crops each year to avoid soil-borne diseases common to brassicas.
