DESCRIPTION

Verbena bonariensis is a tall, elegant plant that produces clusters of small purple flowers held high on slender, wiry stems. Its airy structure allows light to pass through, making it perfect for adding height and movement without blocking other plants. A magnet for bees and butterflies, it brings life and activity to the garden throughout summer. Ideal for naturalistic and prairie-style planting, it thrives in sunny positions and well-drained soil, often self-seeding gently to return year after year.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost or sow outdoors in spring after frost has passed. Seeds can be slow and irregular to germinate and may benefit from a period of cold stratification before sowing.

Lightly cover seeds and keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Transplant seedlings to a sunny position with well-drained soil, spacing plants about 30–40 cm apart.

Water regularly while establishing, then moderately, as plants tolerate some drought. Leave some flowers to set seed if natural reseeding is desired.
